Meeting in Nis, Serbia

(14th-19th of May 2023)

In May, specifically from the 14th to the 19th, the Aifed team embarked on a journey to Nis, Serbia, for the compass project focusing on human rights. They arrived in the evening of the 14th and commenced their activities on the 15th.

During these dedicated days, the team not only had the opportunity to delve deeper into the compass manual and expand their knowledge about human rights, but they also had the chance to immerse themselves in cultural activities and experience the rich gastronomy of Serbia.

On the first day, an extensive introduction to the compass manual took place, wherein the participants engaged in discussions about human rights and individually prioritized them based on their respective cultural backgrounds. It became apparent that culture significantly influences the selection of human rights.

Following the meeting, in the afternoon, the participants headed to a typical Serbian restaurant located in the heart of Nis to taste the culinary delights of Serbia.

The second day commenced with a traditional Serbian savory breakfast, after which the participants proceeded to the conference center. The discussions once again revolved around the compass manual and emphasized the importance of rights. Participants from Serbia, Italy, Ukraine, and Spain were present, leading to conversations about customs prevalent in each country and the rights that were violated or respected within their respective cultures.

On the third day, the participants embarked on a cultural visit to the Orthodox cathedral in Nis before returning to the conference center for interactive activities based on the compass manual, specifically targeting the easy and medium difficulty levels. In the afternoon, they explored the skeleton tower in the city of Nis and visited a local farm that produces wine and traditional cheese, where they had the opportunity to sample local products.

Finally, on the fourth day, the participants gathered at the conference center for the last time to conclude the activities outlined in the Compass manual and bid farewell before departing from Nis.
